the studbook request has been approved by ESF

Postby Marnix Hoekstra » Tue Jan 08, 2008 8:54 pm

Hi all,

Harry Rotmans, secretary of ESF, has notified me today that ESF has approved my studbook request. :D The studbook will start off with 11 animals.
Once again all European owners are invited to participate. This way you can help preserve a healthy captive population of this endangered species.
Registration forms (in English, German & Dutch) can be downloaded at: http://www.studbooks.org/ and emailed to me.

You could start an American studbook for the species 8)
I heard that such an initiative was taken for Pelusios.

The site of the European Studbook Foundation provides a lot of info: http://www.studbooks.org
I heard about the Pelusios studbook in the US from another ESF studbook keeper. I will ask him about it.

To set up an American Heosemys grandis stud book i am going to need a lot of help. Is there any one who would be willing to help with there time? Any members here in the states that could help with bloodlines and import statistic's? Or anyone out of the states that could help me with simplifying my work load? Its a lot of work and im not completely comprehensive of all the terms used and how to find the info needed as shown by the esf. Thank you, Turtle man dan.

It is not that much work to run a small studbook. All you have to do is keep the registrations up to date, and stay in contact with the participants.
I have sent an email to the man who wants to set up an American studbook for Pelusios.
