first shipment of Hong Kong turtles

Post by Marnix Hoekstra » Fri Jul 09, 2010 6:49 pm

Yesterday the first 39 turtles arrived from Hong Kong at Schiphol airport. The shipment included 10 Cuora amboinensis, 10 Cyclemys dentata, 7 Heosemys grandis, 1 Malayemys macrocephala and 11 Cuora galbinifrons.
Unfortunately, I couldn't arrange to be there on such a short notice. I picked up my turtle at Henk Zwartepoorte's home at the end of the day.
Of the 7 grandises, 6 were males. Since I had indicated that I preferred a female, I got the one female. If I had known there were six males, I would have been happy to let someone else take the female. But what is done is done. She is at my home now and doing well. I have decided to name her Silhouette, after a tropical island that is a home to giant tortoises. 8)

Marnix,
I will post some pic's of her for you. However, I recently visited ZSL and met with Dr Ian Stephen, who as you know, has a group of 1:1:5
which he tells me may be up for re homing. all of his 2009 babies are likely to be female.

Hi Paul,
Thanks for the pics. She is a beautiful turtle.
Could you send me Dr Ian Stephen's email address? (or send mine to him). I would like to get in contact with him.
Are the adults up for rehoming as well?
