Hello and A Question!

Post by Melanie » Wed Jul 06, 2011 9:36 am

Hello everyone!

My name is Melanie, and my significant other and I have a lovely (guessed female) giant asian pond turtle named Delilah. She is about 9 inches long, and the approximate age given to me was six years. I must say, this site has been VERY helpful to us when at first deciding to welcome her into the family, and afterward on her feeding and care! She is currently in a 60 gallon tank which is mostly water and is soon moving into a pen that will be four feet by two feet. I live in Canada, and when the weather was nice the other day I took her outside for a little while and she Loved IT! When I set up her new home, I was hoping to include some plants that she could munch on. I had originally planned on only planting dandilions, but was also hoping to inclue grass. I was wondering if anyone could tell me anything about what the grass will do for her nutritionally, and of course if there are and reasons I should avoid it.

Let me know! Cheers :D

Hi Melanie,

Welcome again. I'm glad the site is helpful to you. :D
Dandelions are okay but if you plant them in the pen they will probably be gone pretty soon.
Grass is a good choice. There is no reason to avoid it. She won't eat it, except accidentally or when she is really hungry. It doesn't do much nutritionally.
Here is a list of plants that are generally toxic to reptiles.
Could you post some pictures of Delilah? :)

Marnix
