I have heard that there are at Burgers Zoo / Arnheim some Heosemys grandis.
Has anybody see this turtles?
How many there are in which size?

Burgers Zoo/ARNHEIM

Hello Michael,

This is the breeding group of five that Henk Zwartepoorte used to keep at Blijdorp Zoo in Rotterdam. In 1991 they were moved to Arnhem, and I got that year's hatchlings. Initially they were kept in the mangrove wood, with a sign saying the English name was 'cog wheel turtle'. It took years before I found out this was incorrect; the cog wheel turtle is Heosemys spinosa. Later they were moved to Burgers' Bush, an enormous hall with tropical wildlife. I couldn't find them during my last visit; but Henk Zwartepoorte told me they're still there, with a whole bunch of younger ones.
With kind regards,
Marnix

I have been informed by mr. Joep Wensing of Burgers Zoo that they don't keep the species anymore.
Besides this breeding group, Burgers Zoo has also temporarily housed individuals seized during the massive confiscation in Hong Kong, before sending them to zoos in Spain and Portugal.

I visited the zoo last Saturday with a group of friends.
Here are two pictures of the enclosure where they used to keep the grandises from 1991 till 1997. It is inside the mangrove hall.

And here is an old picture of the enclosure that was made in 1994. Unfortunately you can't see the grandises here.
